Would you rather meet any celebrity that you want or meet any fictional character you want
OOoooohhMmYygGooDd this is such a good question…… ooh god okay umm i a gonna say fictional character because from reading books, I have a better idea about who they are and what they’re like rather than a celebrity….. *whispers* Sam Cortland…….. :3
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
If you are not yet in love with Celaena Sardothien from Throne of Glass, I’m sure you’d definitely fall for her in this book!
5 heart-pounding novellas in one book! I can’t even!!!!!
This series of novellas tackles the who, when and how Celaena Sardothien ended up in Endovier. It was a finely detailed prequel and a more action-packed but still emotion-filled story of the girl under the cloak of being Adarlan’s greatest assassin.
Moreover, you’ll also get to know more about the guy who first captivated our assassin’s heart — Sam Cortland. Before the end of Throne of Glass, I’m quite torn in who should I ship with Celaena — Dorian or Chaol. Now, I am very certain that I do not like them both because Sam Cortland will always be my guy — the guy — for Celaena Sardothien.
“I love you,” he repeated, shaking her again. “I have for years. And he hurt you and made me watch because he’s always known how I felt, too. But if I asked you to pick, you’d choose Arobynn, and I. Can’t. Take. It.”
Fall for him, people!!!!! He’s swoon-worthy!!!
The last novella is heart-breaking, though. Really heart-breaking. I can’t even describe how magnificently written it was. The action is superb. The romance is just enough to make you giddy (and scream for Sam Cortland!!!). The anticipation is breathtaking (literally). And the ending (oh, the ending!!) is very gut-wrenching. It’ll make you feel empty inside, like you lost all purpose in life.Because even assassins can be betrayed.
My rating: 5 striking stars (Because Sam is just so striking)
I initially rated this book as 4 but while writing this review, I knew it deserves a 5. 😀
- Evrybody: Aedion, Chaol, Dorian, or Rowan?
- Me: You’re a damned idiot.
- Me: You’re a moron and an ass and a damned idiot.
Me: Because I’d pick Sam.
- Me: SAM.
Do not follow Pinterest boards of your favourite book series’ because the author will post picture of dead characters that could be from the earlier books/prequel novellas, but also could be indications that the character isn’t really dead and it will /ruin your life/.
I was tagged by the darling mycupofbooks to list my ten favourite characters (ONLY ten???) this was hard… But as it currently stands (and in no particular order):
1. Celaena Sardothien from Throne of Glass (because do I even need to explain?)
2. Finn Nelson from My Mad Fat Diary
3. Percy Jackson from PJO and HoO
4. Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter
5. Sam Cortland from Throne of Glass (or technically Assassin’s Blade but we don’t talk about that)
6. Levi from Fangirl
7. Liam from The Darkest minds
8. Annabeth Chase from PJO and HoO
9. Etienne St Clair from Anna and the French Kiss
10. Penryn from Angelfall
- The Assasin and the pirate lord:aww sam’s not that awesome I mean he and celaena practically hate eachother
- The Assasin and the healer:I hope he’s ok tho
- The assasin and the desert:Celaena, Ansel, kiss pls
- The assasin and the underworld:SAM CORTLAND IS BAE. I WILL DEFEND SAM CORTLAND WITH MY LIFE. IF ANY ONE HURTS HIM……oh wait
- The assasin and the empire:shit shit shit SON OF A BITCH
You know, when I first read the scene in TAatE where Sam tells Celaena about him saying the whole “I will not be afraid thing”, I misread it and thought Celaena was talking. So basically I thought Celaena said when she’s scared she says “My name is Sam Cortland and I will not be afraid,” and I was so confused.
IM GONNA KEEP SAYING IT: UNDER HERE IS A LOT OF SPOILERS.
Technically the prequel to Throne of Glass, I can’t decide if I’m happier to have read this after reading the normal series, or upset because I lost out on Sam Cortland and how he really influenced Celaena throughout the Throne of Glass books out so far.
Like everything Maas writes, it’s beautifully written with characters that seem realistic and plots that are intriguing. But really this collection of five shorter stories, chronicling Celaena Sardothien before Endovier is simply for explanation that couldn’t make into the TOG books. One of those explanations, and one of the most painful, being Sam Cortland.
His name is mentioned again and again in the main series, but little to offer who he was and what he meant to Celaena other than a friend who had died. In The Assassin’s Blade the reader is finally properly introduced to him as a characters, though the feeling that he constantly has one foot in the grave is present because of his eventual death. Being able to take a look at Celaena after and before Sam came into her life, is evidence enough of how much of the plot and her character he still effects in the main series. One of the biggest ways is him being the first to teach Celaena the reminder that she says gets her through Endovier and when she is afraid, because of Sam, Celaena repeats again and again in TOG “My name is Celaena Sardothien, and I will not be afraid.” The thought of him and his belief in her, is a major character piece of Celaena herself. And one that reappears when many could be ignorant to it.
After reading, one comes to a better understanding of Celaena’s vague past and what she went through under the care of Arobynn Hamel. With that new understanding the plot point in the main books become clearer.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend any TOG fan to also read this one. So far, Sarah J. Maas has not disappointed.
I’m so intrigued by Sam Cortland’s character. He just seems so interesting and I feel like he was the perfect guy for Celaena. It’s so weird how I ship Celaena the most with Sam. Sigh
i will not be afraid: ”My name is Sam Cortland … and I will not be afraid.”
“My name is Celaena Sardothien,” she whispered, “and I will not be afraid.”
a mix for celaena sardothien and sam cortland

I don’t care about stupid “rules” or the fact that Celaena “saw” his “corpse” – SAM CORTLAND IS COMING BACK IN BOOK FOUR, OKAY!?!any mention of Sam Cortland tears through my heart like a knife and Heir of Fire is sooooo not helping with that…
So, this friend of mine whom I convinced of reading TOG… She had read the first three novellas in three days… Today she told me how in love she was with Sam and how happy she was because Sam and Celaena were together and she asked me if Sam appeared in the books.
My answer: “He can’t, remember he’s an assassin and Celaena will be in the Glass Castle” (She knew the synopsis, so no spoilers for her there)
Today, she finished the last novella.
She said she wanted to kill me.
I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time… WHY DID SAM HAVE TO DIE?!
